I founded New Vision Landscaping in 2017 with the vision of providing quality craftsmanship and creating an opportunity for those that are involved.

Growing up I always wanted to own a business. I had a name picked out back in high school, it was New Vision Development. I really didn’t know what that business even would be, but I had a name already! At the age of 18, I began my landscape endeavors by working for Dorshak Family Tree Service. Mainly hauling logs and brush on the ground. Watching the guys swinging from the tree’s inspired me to take it further and learn how to be a climber/tree surgeon. I soon took on an Arborist position at David J. Frank and gained a lot more valuable experience with a high level of expectations. From there I took on a position at Spring Gardens, quickly becoming a lead foreman for the construction/softscape side of the business.

I soon found myself working part-time and taking on a fair amount of side jobs (all tree trimming and removal). I was starting to head in the direction of going on my own but wasn’t sure I was quite ready for that yet. One evening my girlfriend (now wife) was sleeping over and we were suddenly awakened by a loud noise coming from the kitchen. I ran over to it and found that the coffee grinder was on. It wasn’t on a timer or anything, it freaked us out a bit. Now, you’re probably wondering what this has to do with anything. Well, I took that as a sign, “Jimmy it’s time to grind”! I decided to get serious about the business and created New Vision Landscaping LLC about a month after that. My nephew Keegan became a partner not too long after and quickly established himself as an integral part of the company.

We met Michael Davis, owner + founder of Emerald Gardens, in our second year of business. Michael and his business focused on design and horticulture, we were a perfect match, being that we focused on construction and installations. We began working together, combining our strengths creating an incredible partnership. The foundation of the company was now complete, and we began to quickly grow.

We have since hired exceptionally talented team members that have important roles in the New Vision family. Gary Heinrichs and Michael Scorsone, to name a few. We are extremely grateful for every employee and customer that has been a part of this journey!

We look forward to becoming the landscape professionals you come to know and count on!

I always had a feeling that college would not be my path to success. Shortly after graduating high school, I joined my uncle Jimmy in the landscaping industry at the small company he worked for. James had been working in the field for many years and taught me almost everything I know about quality landscaping. Outside of our professional work together, my uncle Jimmy has also taught me a lot about responsibility, accountability, and dependability. In 2017, when James decided to start his own landscaping business, he asked me if I was interested in joining him on this endeavor, to which I happily agreed. Throughout our years of growth as a company I have grown much as a person. I’ve taken all I’ve learned from conquering the challenges of running a business and applied them to the challenges of life.

I’ve always felt a need to help the people I care about. Taking part in the business has given me the opportunity to help others while also providing for myself. It is extremely gratifying to give people a space to grow and to earn a decent living. As we’ve grown more successful as a business, we’ve even been able to provide much along the lines of extra gifts and benefits. As we continue to grow, my hope is to provide even more benefits to our employees. Eventually, I would like to see this business become one that helps its employees and helps people in need, in some way or another.

HISTORY: Michael Davis, head landscape designer at New Vision Landscaping and lifelong horticulturalist, has been honing his skills and extensive horticulture knowledge practically since he could talk. His grandfather owned a 150-acre nursery in the Franklin area, where Michael spent a lot of his childhood learning to care for plants. Michael, finding a calling in his family’s work, went on to participate in a horticultural science program in high school, and eventually to a career in the landscape design field. Throughout the 70’s and 80’s, Michael worked for numerous large landscaping companies, keeping his knowledge of plants and landscape materials up to date along the way. In the 90’s Michael started his own landscape design company, providing quality designs for clients and other landscaping companies alike. In 2018 he joined us at New Vision Landscaping and the rest is history!

DESIGN PROCESS: To start, you and Michael will set up a date and time to meet and discuss your project. At this time, Michael will also email you a questionnaire that is designed to give him a better understanding of who you are and your design/aesthetic preferences. Next, you and Michael will meet at the designated time to discuss these questions and look at the areas to be transformed. Once Michael has a clear understanding of the project, he will begin drawing up the design and putting estimates together. Upon your approval of the design and estimates, a timeline will be given for the project’s completion. Michael will be on site often, ensuring the crew has a clear understanding of the project. Once the project has been completed, detailed instructions for plant-care will be given so that your landscape can remain beautiful for the years to come!

Ever since I was a child I have been working on cars and small engines, my father and I used to do this together growing up and even then, as I got older, turned to doing it professionally where we opened our own business together.
As time went on, I discovered an opportunity in the landscaping industry that I wanted to try out. I ended up working with them for 6 years and developed a passion for the lawn and maintenance department. Shortly after this, I reconnected with an old friend James Jasso. James then went on to tell me what New Vision Landscaping was all about, and the rest is history.

Currently, I am the maintenance operations manager here at New Vision Landscaping. I handle all the mowing accounts we have, along with maintaining client relationships to ensure our quality and customer satisfaction. Given my background in mechanics I also maintain all the equipment we have, this keeps our employees safe during operation, but also helps us continue to our goal which is to exceed our customers’ expectations.

Seeing as I found my home here at New Vision Landscaping, I would like to grow more into sales and challenge myself with all the dynamics that make up this company. I feel there are many ways to grow here, and I consider myself a lifetime employee and honored to be part of this small business family.

New grass is the easiest way to transform your yard and boost its aesthetic appeal. The only two ways to get new grass is by laying sod or planting seeds. Both methods will provide you with the lush lawn you envision your home having, however, there are a few key differences between them. While the results for sod are immediate, it is more difficult to maintain and comes with a higher cost than seed. Conversely, a yard grown from seed will require less water and cost less than sod yet take 1-2 months before any results can be seen. Each person has a different preference; whether you prefer the immediate results of sod or enjoy the chance to watch your yard sprout up from seeds, we can provide you with the expert service and instruction that you need.

Grading and Drainage Solutions:

There are a few different kinds of issues people have with water pooling in the wrong places, sometimes it is water from downspouts that pools up next to your foundation, causing fractures and complicated foundation issues that can be expensive to repair. Other times, due to improper grading or yard settling, water will pool in your yard or in an undesired area that may cause muddy spots, dead grass, and structural damage. Regardless of the water-pooling issue you’re having, here are some solutions:

Buried Down Spout Drainage

Grade Manipulation

French Drain Tile System

Buried Down Spout Drainage:

During heavy rainfall, a constant stream of water drains out of your downspouts, and usually it is only directed four to five feet away from your building with a simple extension to the downspout. The water coming out ends up causing soil erosion and muddy spots, not to mention the extension can be a pain to mow around. For these reasons, we choose to bury the downspout drainage. In most cases, the downspout is run directly down into the ground where it connects with a four-inch PVC tube. This tube stretches out at least 10 feet away from your building and then resurfaces via a disk-like cover for the tube that rests flat at the surface of the yard, generally called a “pop-up valve”. The water from the downspout now flows down underground, through the tube, and out of the pop-up valve, dispersing slowly and evenly around the area, safely away from your building. This may be the remedy for your downspout-drainage dreariness, but it won’t solve every water-pooling issue. Sometimes these issues are caused by improper grading, which brings us to our next solution.

Cost efficient but usually more than grading

Lasts a lifetime

Underground (don’t have to move when mowing, better aesthetically)

Grade Manipulation:

Over time, every yard develops dips in their grade, whether through soil erosion, settling, or by mechanical means. It is in these dips that rain water will eventually pool, causing damage to the foundation of your building or to your yard. Luckily, soil is not moved with difficulty. When we manipulate the grade of the soil, we create slopes that lead water to desirable locations. Water that pools next to your foundation is easily diverted away by raising the grade of the soil directly surrounding your building. This raising of the grade creates a slope by which gravity moves the water for you, away from the building. Water that pools in the middle of your yard is sometimes diverted away in a similar fashion. Other times excavating is necessary and soil is removed to create a swale: a shallow depression that carries water runoff away from problem areas. Most of the time, the sloping is subtle; this means no significant changes will occur in the layout of your landscape, and because only a transfer of dirt is involved, this solution is typically the cheapest and quickest route to a properly drained yard. Unfortunately, this route is not always available to take. When there is nowhere nearby for a pool of water to be safely diverted, or gravity is working against us, it must be collected and directed to a suitable location.

Cost efficient

Natural

Doesn’t require maintenance

French Drain Tile System:

Why choose to install a French drain tile system?

If your lawn is retaining water in an undesired area leading to difficulty in mowing, unusable yard space, or creating a mosquito haven. A French drain tile system will direct all the pooling water to an underground perforated piping system that will daylight (end of pipe) and gradually disperse to the desired area we choose; away from your building and areas you want to use and enjoy.

We create a trench from the problem area to the desired daylight area. After the trench is cleared out, we lay weed barrier in the trench, followed by drainage stone. We then create the proper pitch, at the very least ¼” every 10 feet, using the drainage stone and laser level. Then the perforated pipe is glued and installed. Drainage stone is poured on top of the pipe, the weed barrier is then wrapped and folded over the stone to limit soil contamination. The end of the pipe (daylight end) can be connected to a pop-up valve, a disk-like cover for the tube that rests flat at the surface of the yard. Sometimes if the terrain is in our favor, we can daylight the end into the side of a hill and let gravity take it from there. In this situation, we suggest placing rocks around the end of the pipe to help slow down the water and to create less of a chance of soil wash out. We then spread soil over the top 3 inches or depending on the plan of the job, apply the material agreed upon over the drainage system.

More expensive

Underground (can keep yard more level, in most situations)
